Cookie Policy

What cookies LegalKB uses and how to control them.

Last reviewed on April 27, 2026.

This Cookie Policy is part of our Privacy Policy. It explains what cookies are, which categories LegalKB uses, and how you can change your mind at any time.

What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small text file stored in your browser by a website you visit, or by a third-party service the site uses (for example, an advertising network). Cookies let a site remember you between page loads, count how many people read a page, or decide which ads to show. Similar technologies — local storage, pixel tags, and device identifiers — work in much the same way and are covered by this policy.

Categories we use

Strictly necessary always on

These cookies are required for the site to load and function correctly: load balancing, security tokens, and request identifiers used to detect abuse. They do not track you across sites and they cannot be turned off without breaking the site, so they fall outside consent requirements.

Analytics consent-based where required

We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and understand which pages are useful. The cookies set by Analytics are aggregated and pseudonymous; they do not include your name or email. The full list of GA4 cookies, their purposes, and lifetimes is documented by Google in its Analytics cookie usage documentation.

Advertising consent-based where required

LegalKB shows ads served by Google AdSense and its certified ad partners. These services place cookies that allow them to:

Google's full list of advertising cookies is published in its cookie types reference. The list of approved third-party ad-tech vendors that may also set cookies is published here.

Common cookies you may encounter

Cookie names and lifetimes change over time as the underlying providers update their tools. Google maintains current information on its own pages, which we link to above.

How to control cookies

Through any consent banner shown on this site

If you are visiting from a region with a consent requirement (such as the EEA, UK, or Switzerland), you will see a Google-managed consent message before personalised ads are loaded. You can grant, refuse, or change your choices through that banner.

Through your browser

Every modern browser lets you block cookies, delete existing cookies, or warn you before a cookie is set. The exact steps differ by browser:

Through industry opt-out tools

Global Privacy Control

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as an opt-out from the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for personalised advertising, where applicable law (such as the CCPA/CPRA) requires us to do so.

What happens if you refuse cookies

The site itself will keep working — pages, navigation, and the on-page glossary search all function without analytics or advertising cookies. The main effects are: you will see ads that are not personalised to you, and we will see less detailed information about which pages are most useful to readers.

Updates

We may update this Cookie Policy when we change tools or when applicable law changes. The "Last reviewed" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
